Shen YunIntroduction to the Art Troupe

Shen Yun Performing Arts, headquartered in New York, is the world’s leading Chinese classical dance and music troupe. Over the years, Shen Yun has attracted and trained many of the world’s top artists, reviving and promoting authentic, almost extinct Chinese traditional culture in the form of classical art.

From the ancient times of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors to the magnificent Tang Dynasty, from the prosperity of the Song Dynasty to the elegance of the Qing Dynasty, the 5,000-year Chinese civilization has a rich history. This history is full of myths and legends, heroic epics – courage and sacrifice, integrity and loyalty, kindness and virtue, and stories as brilliant as stars that pass on the 5,000-year civilization.

China was called “Shenzhou” in ancient times. People and gods once lived together on this land. Music, medicine, calligraphy, clothing, writing… God passed on a rich culture to the people here. For thousands of years, belief in Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism was the foundation of society. The emperor ruled in accordance with heaven, and the people respected heaven, believed in gods, valued virtue and practiced good deeds.

Unfortunately…

Over the past few decades, the Chinese Communist regime has viewed traditional culture of respecting heaven and valuing virtue as a threat to its existence. Through political movements such as the Cultural Revolution, it has systematically uprooted traditional beliefs, nearly destroying the 5,000-year-old divine cultural heritage.

In 2006, a group of China’s top traditional artists came to New York with the same hope: to revive authentic Chinese divine culture and promote it around the world. In this way, Shen Yun was born.

Each season, we present a brand new program in top theaters around the world, such as Lincoln Center in New York, Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and London Coliseum; our symphony orchestra has performed at Carnegie Hall.

Millions of live audiences, including the most famous actors, top fashion designers, government officials, royal families, and celebrities have attended Shen Yun performances. We hope you can come and see it too.

Shen Yun has nine characteristics

1. Shen Yun’s creation and performance are based on traditional culture;

2. Shen Yun is based on Chinese Classical Dance as the main form of expression;

3. The Shen Yun Orchestra uses both Eastern and Western instruments, combining traditional Eastern melodies with perfect Western harmonies;

6. The stage production uses traditional lighting, sound and stage art effects;

7. 3D animation is used, with special effects of the interaction between the sky curtain and stage actors

8. Shen Yun is an art troupe of practitioners, with strong self-discipline and operates as a team;

Shen YunIntroduction to the Art Troupe

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts stands as a global leader in Chinese classical dance and music. Over the years, Shen Yun has attracted and trained some of the world’s most talented artists, revitalizing and promoting authentic, almost forgotten Chinese traditional culture.

From the ancient era of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors to the glorious Tang Dynasty, from the flourishing Song Dynasty to the refined Qing Dynasty, China’s 5,000-year civilization stretches back through millennia. This rich tapestry weaves together myths and legends, heroic epics, tales of courage and sacrifice, integrity and loyalty, kindness and virtue, and narratives as radiant as the stars, carrying forth the very essence of 5,000 years of civilization.

“Shenzhou”—the ancient name for China—was a realm where gods and humans co-existed. Music, medicine, calligraphy, clothing, writing—God bestowed upon the people a wealth of culture. For thousands of years, the philosophies of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism formed the foundation of society. The emperor ruled in harmony with Heaven, and the people revered the heavens, believed in deities, placed great importance on virtue, and practiced acts of kindness.

However, unfortunately…

Over the past few decades, the Chinese Communist regime has viewed traditional culture— with its emphasis on respecting Heaven and valuing virtue— as a threat to its authority. Through political movements like the Cultural Revolution, it systematically uprooted traditional beliefs, nearly obliterating 5,000 years of divine cultural heritage.

In 2006, a group of China’s foremost traditional artists united in New York, sharing a common desire: to revive authentic Chinese divine culture and share it with the world. This collective aspiration gave birth to Shen Yun.

Each season, Shen Yun presents a brand-new program in top theaters around the globe, including the renowned Lincoln Center in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and the London Coliseum. Its symphony orchestra has graced the stage of Carnegie Hall.

Millions of live audiences, including world-famous actors, top fashion designers, government officials, royal families, and celebrities, have been captivated by Shen Yun performances. We invite you to join them and experience the magic for yourself.
