Long pursuit in Gaspésie: the suspects are arrested with their three children

A couple who fled authorities following stealing gasoline on Sunday followingnoon were arrested a few hours later while hiding with their three children in the tall grass in Sainte-Félicité, Gaspésie.

It all started with a theft of gasoline around 1:15 p.m. from a gas station in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, in Gaspésie. The suspect vehicle was quickly spotted by agents of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

“They tried to intercept him, but the suspects fled. A chase then began on Route 132, ”says Béatrice Dorsainville, spokesperson for the SQ.

The offending vehicle allegedly committed several violations of the Highway Safety Code, before being lost to sight nearly 70 km away, in Sainte-Félicité.

Searching the ground allowed the provincial police force to find the vehicle of the fugitives in the backyard of the church of the small municipality, around 2:30 p.m., but no one was on board.

It was only an hour later that the patrol officers were able to apprehend the suspects, a man and a woman. The latter were hiding in the tall grass of the shore, on the edge of the river, accompanied by their three children.

“They were taken back to the police station to be questioned by the authorities. Their three children have been taken care of,” says Ms. Dorsainville.

The couple might be charged with theft, absconding and dangerous driving. But other charges might be added.
