Long lines form to venerate a relic of a saint in CDMX

MEXICO CITY (El Universal).— Hundreds of believers in Saint Jude Thaddeus met yesterday at the San Hipólito temple in the Guerrero neighborhood of the Cuauhtémoc municipality to see the relic from the Old Continent.

The attendees lined up to give thanks for the favors granted.

“It is a blessing to see a part of the body of my saint, Saint Jude is the patron saint of my family,” said Diana, who came with her entire family to see the relic.

At around 5 a.m., the bone fragment from one of Saint Jude Thaddeus’ arms was transferred from the Metropolitan Cathedral to the temple of San Hipólito under police guard. At 8 a.m. the religious site opened its doors to the devotees, who were waiting on Paseo de la Reforma and Hidalgo Avenue.

Mrs. Martina, a devotee for 15 years, traveled from the Tláhuac municipality to visit the relic. She and her entire family were on the beaches of Acapulco, Guerrero, when a stingray stung her and she was hospitalized. She mentions that thanks to her devotion to Saint Jude Thaddeus, she was “reborn.”

“I came to thank my Saint Jude, who saved my life after being stung by a stingray. Today, fifteen years later, I come to thank him,” she said.

Doña Georgina stood in line for more than 20 minutes to pray for her son, who is serving a 40-year sentence in the Santa Martha Acatitla prison.

She and her grandson went to ask for the blessing of the canonized apostle, so that he could continue to protect her family.

“I pray to God the Father to continue protecting my son, who is in prison, and to always guide him and illuminate him,” added Mrs. Georgina, a believer in the patron saint of lost causes.

The dogs also attended the exhibition of the relic: “Connie” and “Güereja” accompanied their owner to see the remains of Saint Jude in the temple of San Hipólito.

“The whole family has come from the Gustavo A. Madero municipality so that you can continue showering us with your blessings, especially the little ones in the home, our pets,” concluded Catalina, who trained with her pets.

The faithful surrounded the temple square, with umbrellas and statuettes, and some even dressed as the apostle, and formed a line to enter and see, even if only for a few seconds, the religious relic.

The exhibition will end today and will then be moved to the Cuemanco area, in the Coyoacán district of Mexico City.
