At the beginning of September, the Municipality of Bastogne honored couples who had been married for fifty or even sixty years.
60 years of marriage
Engelbert (José) Baltus and Marianne Thess lived for many years in Congo, a life collected in the book “Living and Sharing”. Back home, they will run a direct sales company, then a guest house. They moved to Bastogne in 2016.
On October 18, 1963, Joseph Louis and Agnès Sulbout shared their consent. The couple settled in Mageret to manage their agricultural operation. Seven children and 24 grandchildren came to liven up the home.
50 years of marriage
Jean-Marie Girs and Marie-Claire Martin met at an Easter ball in 1971. Two years later, they united in front of the mayor of Wardin. Work on the farm punctuates their days and nights.
The church of Chenogne welcomed Yvan Crucifix and Nicole Laloy. The name Crucifix was associated with the local slaughterhouse which was located on rue Gustave Delperdange for many years until 2008.
Daniel Davin and Josiane Henrot met in Achêne, but it is in Bastogne that they will make their lives. Daniel will work as an architectural designer while Josiane will be a medical secretary for Doctor Noiret.
Francis Gillet and Jocelyne Michaeily united on July 6 in the Saint-Pierre church in Bastogne. Francis will serve as a team leader at Goodyear. Jocelyne, accompanied by her husband, will develop their garden, which becomes the Parc d’Aurélie, which regularly welcomes visitors to raise funds for the benefit of the non-profit organization.
It is his military profession that will attract Jean-Luc Lemaire and his wife Rose Leyder towards Bastogne following having stayed in Germany and near Gembloux. Retired, Jean-Luc was a volunteer driver for the Red Cross and an administrator at the Tourist Office. He is president of the Fraternal of the 1st artillery regiment.
After meeting in Sibret, Monique Besseling and André Léonard said yes on August 4, 1973 in the Hompré church. Their garage, and the associated fuel pump, which is located on Route d’Houffalize, will occupy their professional lives.
Jean Detaille will work in the banking field throughout his career (BBL, ING) while Liliane Frères will be a babysitter for over twenty years. They said yes in front of the mayor of Beho. When they are not on stage with the troop “The plank burners”.
Two rosewood weddings
Couples were unable to join Espace 23 for the spotlight. We might thus have honored two couples from the town who are celebrating 65 years of marriage: Guy Schmitz and Nelly Bizon in the same way Paul Lemaire and Fernande Georges.
