Long delays in employment insurance: “it’s unheard of at this point”

The long delays experienced by many employment insurance claimants have never been so important, according to a specialist.

“It is a problem that has become widespread from the beginning of this year. Since January, February, March, until June, recently, it was generalized. It’s unheard of,” says Pierre Céré, coordinator of the Montreal Unemployment Committee, in an interview with LCN.

However, he notes that the situation is tending to improve. The fact remains that the reasons for these delays are difficult to explain.

The federal government’s disinvestment in the public service operating system might be a factor to consider.

“The computer system is obsolete, the organization of work is antiquated. We are also dealing with a law which is old, which is dusty, finicky, complicated, ”says Mr. Céré.
