Following a harrowing break-in that occurred on November 19, London police have arrested one suspect but continue the pursuit of three additional suspects who violently forced their way into an apartment, during which gunfire erupted.

No injuries were reported in the shocking incident, which police chose to disclose publicly on Tuesday.

According to police reports, three men entered the apartment building located in the SoHo neighbourhood around 5:35 p.m. on that fateful evening and forcibly gained access to a specific unit.

When confronted by the occupants of the unit, “one of the men pointed a firearm at them before firing the gun inside the apartment,” police stated, heightening the fear and danger faced by the residents.

The terrified individuals inside the unit promptly called 911 and provided police with a detailed description of the suspects as they fled the scene.

While police initially withheld the building’s identity, a spokesperson for London and Middlesex Community Housing later confirmed that the alarming shooting incident took place at 241 Simcoe St., a towering 12-storey highrise managed by the organization.

“Incidents like this unfortunately can happen anywhere in the city,” said Matt Senechal, expressing concern for the well-being of residents at community housing facilities. “When a serious incident like this occurs, it understandably raises alarm among tenants and staff. Our priority is to support the ongoing police investigation while ensuring the safety of everyone involved.”

Despite officers’ immediate search efforts, the suspects remain at large. However, investigators from the street crime unit were able to analyze video surveillance footage, which provided them with images of the three suspects, estimated to be aged between 25 and 35 years old.

One of the suspects has been described as a tall white male with a medium build and a light-colored goatee. He was last seen carrying a grey cross-body bag and wore a black hooded sweatshirt, a black New Balance jacket, ripped blue jeans, and black Nike shoes with white soles and a visible Nike logo.

The second suspect, identified as an Indigenous man, is noted for having black facial hair on his chin and a thin black moustache. He has a more substantial build and is of average height, dressed in a black or dark navy “Jordan” hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and grey running shoes featuring white laces and soles.

The third suspect is described as a white male who displays a slight lean to his right while walking. His outfit included grey jeans with red markings near the knees, a black jacket lined with red, and black high-top sneakers.

In connection to the ongoing investigation, a 39-year-old man from London was arrested on Tuesday morning at a nearby residential complex in the vicinity of Wellington Road and Simcoe Street. He faces multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit an indictable offense, and remains in police custody, awaiting a court appearance scheduled for the same day.

Authorities have warned that the remaining suspects are armed and dangerous, advising that anyone who sights them should not approach and should immediately contact 911.

Investigators urge anyone who was in the 200 block of Simcoe Street between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on November 19, particularly those with dash-cam or video surveillance footage that could aid the investigation, to contact London police at 519-661-5670.

This incident marks the ninth shooting in London this year and the second occurrence within the same week, as over a dozen shots were fired on Monday at the rear of an unlicensed cannabis dispensary located at 264 Dundas St.
