The girl was younger than an hour and was wrapped in a towel, police said Friday. Authorities named the baby Elsa. A walker discovered the child while walking in Newham in the east of the British capital on Thursday evening and informed the authorities.
The baby is uninjured and well and is being cared for in a clinic. The police immediately launched a search for the mother. “We are extremely concerned for her welfare as she will have endured a traumatic ordeal and will require immediate medical attention following birth,” said Chief Superintendent Simon Crick of the Metropolitan Police. Experienced doctors are ready. Crick called on the woman to report immediately by telephone, to the nearest hospital or to a police station.
