Meter-high flames hit the London evening sky!
A fire broke out in a car workshop in the west of the British capital – just a few meters from Acton Town underground station. The fire brigade was called around 6:10 p.m. (German time) and is deployed with 70 emergency services and ten vehicles, as announced on Twitter.
The firefighters are currently cooling several gas cylinders on the workshop site so that they do not explode. The rescuers expect to be busy with the operation until late at night. Residents should keep their windows closed.
It is still unclear what caused the fire and whether people were injured. The subway station was evacuated and the roads around it were closed. The Piccadilly line between Hammersmith and Uxbridge is disrupted, according to the BBC. An eyewitness described the scene in the news portal “MyLondon” as “apocalyptic”.

Last major London Underground fire in June
In June 2021 there was the last major fire near a London underground station. At that time, a seven meter high flame explosion shot out of a shop front near the “Elephant and Castle” train station – even then the fire started in a car workshop. The reason for the fireball: Dangerous chemicals stored in the workshop.
The fire brigade arrived with 15 fire engines and 100 emergency services. After a little over two hours, she had the situation under control. Six people were injured in the incident, two of them from smoke inhalation.
