LoL: Soon a huge change on the minions according to their lane?

One of the most iconic — but also important — features of League of Legends might soon undergo big changes in the preseason. The minions, these little beings who are only there to die and provide us with gold (but also push our lanes and annoy our opponents), might radically change depending on their respective lane.

Different minions depending on the path?

Riot Axes and Riot Phroxzon, members of the League of Legends development team, explained that the team is actively looking for ways to better balance ADCs and fighters in the upcoming preseason, two classes of champions that remained very strong over the last few patches. While the team is investigating the possibility of modifying mythic items to address the issues faced by these classes, Axes and Phroxzon also said that “differentiate minions in each lane” might be a solution.

For preseason (nothing is certain yet, but we are exploring this idea), we plan to create the possibility of adjusting a role compared to the others, for example by differentiating the minions of each lane. We find our toolset to be a bit too limited and we don’t think simple changes like undoing the Teleport changes will improve the gameplay experience. They will just move some issues around.

The only thing currently empowering minions is the Baron buffwhich gives them more HP, makes them faster, and allows them to deal a lot more damage.

In the past, certain items (now removed from the game) might grant buffs to minions. We can think of the Banner of Command (increased) the power of a minion greatly and makes it immune to magic damage (120 second cooldown). or the Zz’Rot (Generated up to +20% movement speed over 2 seconds near turrets and Void portals). Although it is unlikely that these items will return to the game, Riot Games might take inspiration from them.

We will have to wait for new statements from the studio to know all the changes. The preseason is still very far from us, and the developers have plenty of time to change their tune.
