Without a contract since his departure from the Brest stadium last season, Martinican Loïc Rémy is ending his professional football career at the age of 36.
After a last rollercoaster season in Brest, undermined by several injuries, Martinican Loïc Rémy signals the end of his professional adventure. “After careful consideration […], I made the decision to stop. For me, it’s always football that has nourished me and there will always be a lack, but at a certain point the body has limits.“, he confided on the Prime Video set on Sunday.
Trained at Olympique Lyonnais, he comes from the golden generation of French football. That of 1987, with Karim Benzema, Samir Nasri and Hatem Ben Arfa. A versatile attacker, he began his professional career in October 2006 at OL.
After a loan to RC Lens, it was in Nice then at Olympique de Marseille that the Martinican’s career really took off. In the Marseille city, under the orders of Didier Deschamps, he will establish himself as a potential starter. Fast and skillful in front of goal, he spent three decent seasons at OM, despite the fact that a heart anomaly was detected during his first medical examination.
Double champion of France with OL in 2007 and 2008, the Martinican is opening a new chapter in his history. “There is life following football. There are children and everything that entails“. Having played for more than fourteen clubs in his career, he was English champion in 2015 with Chelsea.”There are lots of good memories that (me) remain in the lead. I can’t describe one in particular, but it’s just been an emotion throughout my career.. […] My first start in Ligue 1, first professional contract, first selection for the French team [le 2 juin 2009, contre le Nigeria, NDLR]…” he remembers.
