Logistics contract, revolution underway. The number of profiles to be updated rises to 50

The figures who will revolutionize the classification of contract personnel in the goods transport, logistics and shipping sector have risen to 50: it is a long list that includes both new profiles, brought regarding by artificial intelligence and more generally by technological evolution, and those to update.

The sector is among the most impacted by innovations and also among the most sensitive to implementing them, as happened in the 2018 agreement with the introduction of the figure of the rider and in the previous contract with that of the driver.

To better explain this contractual round, the typist (still present in the classification system) will leave the scene, while those responsible for managing cash registers will have a new definition, given that payments take place largely through digital channels. Among the new entries there are data scientists, cybersecurity analysts, just to name a few examples, as Michele De Rose, national secretary of Filt Cgil, tells us at the end of the meeting with the employer representation, made up of 24 trade associations (from Anita to Confetra, Conftrasporto, up to the artisans and the 3 cooperative centers).

The negotiation agenda

The negotiations for the renewal of the national collective labor agreement for goods transport, logistics and shipping, which affects over a million workers, are progressing towards the goal that the unions hope can be reached towards the summer. The agenda, confirmed in yesterday’s meeting, for now includes a series of meetings until July and, as the general secretary of Fit Cisl, Salvatore Pellecchia, says, we are moving towards «an acceleration to reach a rapid and positive conclusion to the satisfaction of all parties. The logistics sector plays a strategic role for the country and the national economy. In this round of contractual renewal we are working to define improvement elements from an economic and regulatory point of view, aiming for a revaluation of wages which have lost purchasing power due to the monetary policies of the EU and the consequent increase in prices, without neglecting the updating of the regulatory part, with particular attention to measures on training, health and safety, parenting support and work life balance”.

Timetable and expansion of rights

If we look at the next meetings, on May 16th we will talk regarding working hours for both traveling and non-travelling staff: the discussion will focus on compensating for the inconvenience of shifts through a reduction in hours for the same salary, but also on the use of the lever of training during working hours to still arrive at a reduction in hours for the same salary. To encourage work-life balance, the unions will also put on the table three days of paid annual leave, in addition to those already foreseen. On May 30 the parties will address the broad chapter of the expansion of rights, while the agenda for the other meetings has not yet been defined. Certainly the social clause is considered by the workers’ representatives to be one of the most important issues, with the request for the extension of the regulatory and economic protections, provided for by article 42 of the contract, to all workers in the event of a change of contract, starting from contractual continuity.
