Login screen appears twice in Windows 11/10

There is a major bug where some people have to login twice, i.e. enter the password twice before they can log into Windows and continue their work. I have personally faced this issue where I had to login twice to access the desktop.

  1. Disable Use my sign-in information to automatically finish setting up my device following an update or restart
  2. Disable Users must enter a username and password to use this computer
  3. Remove duplicate usernames.

1]Disable Use my sign-in information to automatically finish setting up my device following an update or restart

If you were using an older version of Windows and recently installed a Windows 10 feature update, your system will automatically use the login credentials to prepare the device for the new update. This is the main reason why you see the login screen once more even following entering the login details.

You can disable this feature from the Windows Settings panel. Go to Accounts > Login Options. On your right, you should find a Privacy category. By default, the Use my login credentials to automatically finish setting up my device following an update or restart option is enabled.

You must switch the button to the Stopped position disable this feature. After that, you should not find the same problem appearing on your machine.

2]Disable Users must enter a username and password to use this computer

Although the above-mentioned solution works in different cases, you can also use this trick to achieve it. Open User Accounts Settings. To do this, press Win + R, type netplwiz and press the Enter button. You will find an option called Users must enter a username and password to use this computer. By default, this option is enabled. You need to remove the mark from the checkbox.

Now you need to enter username and password and restart your computer. After restarting your PC, open the same dialog box and re-enable this same feature.

Simply put, you turned auto-login on and off once more.

See this message if the user must enter a username and password to use this computer option is missing.

3]Remove duplicate usernames

  • Open the RUN dialog from the start menu and enter netplwiz.
  • There will be two different usernames with the same name (Since I already solved the problem once I don’t have duplicate usernames.).
  • Delete one of the users and the problem will be solved.
  • Restart the window and see if the issue is resolved.

I hope these suggestions help you.
