Logan Sargent has had ‘another chance’ to prove he deserves to be in F1, but Williams Racing team boss James Bowles has confirmed that he will be a teammate of the impressive Alex Albon in 2024. He also admitted that he had “other options” to participate. As a rookie, Sargent might only finish ahead of Nick de Vries, who was fired from AlphaTauri, in the 2023 drivers’ standings.
“There were certainly other options,” Bowles admitted. “But I believe in him. We invested a year in him. He deserves another chance to show his worth next year.”This year Williams Racing team principal Bowles, who was appointed as Mercedes’ strategic boss, was highly regarded along with Toto Wolff. “I had the opportunity to carve out a path for myself and my future, and along the way I made some big mistakes that ultimately shaped me into the person I am today,” Bowles said. “This certainly applies to Logan,” says Bowles, who insists he’s not surprised the 22-year-old has struggled given he barely participated in pre-season testing. “At the same time, Alex was showing more and more how good he was,” Bowles said. “He (Sargent) really struggled last season, but in the last four or five races it was really noticeable that he was getting better.”
