Tourists return via Bisham

An easy route for tourists stuck in Naran is the Mansehra one, but the other route, which is a bit longer due to the bridge being washed away, is through Babu Sir Top to Chilas and then Bisham.

Muhammad Anis, the owner of Hotel Centurion in Naran, told Independent Urdu that about 10,000 tourists were stranded in Naran, but more than 80 percent of them are now returning via Bisham.

He said that the connection between Naran and Mansehra has been cut off due to the fact that the bridge connecting Naran with Mansehra was washed away in the flood.

Anais said, ‘Considering the difficulties of tourists, our hotel association has made the hotel rooms free, while the restaurants have decided to charge a 50% discount.’

He said that there are tourists in our hotel and free rooms have been provided to them while some of them are going back through Tehsil Alai, District Butgram and Bisham.

Regarding the stranded tourists in Naran, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said in a statement that the district administration should restore the communication bridge as soon as possible and provide all possible help to the stranded tourists.

According to the statement, ‘temporary accommodation and food of tourists should be taken care of.’

However, the hotel association has demanded the government to restore the link bridge as soon as possible as patients in Naran are also facing difficulties due to the bridge being washed away.

Mohammad Anwar, vice president of Naran Hotel Association, told Independent Urdu that the situation is under control and ration is also available, but from now on, there will be a shortage of ration and especially gas cylinders, while patients are facing difficulties.

He said that normally people have ration for two or three days, but now there will be problems in the coming days if the bridge is not restored.

Anwar said, ‘Most of the tourists are returning via Chilas, Bisham, but still up to 4,000 tourists are stuck in Naran.’

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), a total of 19 people have lost their lives while 15 have been injured due to heavy rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recent days.

According to the PDM report, all possible facilities are being provided to the tourists in Naran due to overflow of Mahandri in Naran.

Similarly, according to the report, the government of Gilgit-Baltistan has also been requested not to allow tourists to use the Naran Road and divert the traffic to the Karakoram Highway.
