The biotechnology SME from Ñublens, Kimun Biotec, is participating in Biofach Brasil 2024, the largest fair of organic and natural products in Latin America, an event in which it seeks to reach agreements for the distribution of the functional foods it produces in its plant located in Chillán, mainly in the Brazilian market.
Moisés Pulgar, CEO of the local firm, stressed that Kimun Biotec is one of the four companies that make up the Marca Chile space, from ProChile, at the fair, which started on Wednesday, June 12, in Sao Paulo, and will continue until Saturday, June 15.
“It is very important for us to be present there,” said the professional, who explained that Brazil is one of the priority markets for the firm to export its products, mainly boldo, culén and palo negro extracts, not only because of its size, but also because the country has regulations for this area.
“It is a fair for organic and natural products, where our products fit in very well; we are working on functional foods from native plant species. And within our commercial plan, we have Brazil as a potential market,” said Pulgar.
He clarified that in Chile there is no regulated market for functional foods, whereas “Brazil has the classification of functional foods, where regulations allow us to give healthy messages, that is, what our products are for; and they also know boldo, which is the arrowhead of our offer, so we are also presenting palo negro, culén and we are currently also working with maqui, thanks to an alliance with the company Biociclo, which is also from the Ñuble region.”
He explained that at the fair “there are many companies looking for new products to have more variety in their showcases. So, what we are aiming for today is to find distributors in different parts of Latin America.”

He indicated that “they have participated in workshops on the food market in Brazil and talks where they have learned the requirements for the entry of food products, all of this generating an excellent opportunity to introduce their products in the South American market. Let us remember that Kimun Biotec already made its first export to Canada this year, which aims to be the starting point to strengthen and expand new markets.”

Meanwhile, Moisés Pulgar announced that on June 22 they will begin a trade mission to the United States, as part of a call from ProChile, in which they will participate in the Summer Fancy Food 2024 fair, in New York, one of the most important annual events in the gourmet food and beverage industry with high added value in the United States.
He explained that, in addition to participating in the fair, they will hold meetings with potential clients, visit points of sale and participate in talks.
