Local ruling party did not cause a problem due to the non-registration of primaries – La Discusión

The local ruling party was surprised to realize on Thursday that in the official document of the Servel, the primaries of the sector in Ñuble were not registered.

Until Wednesday night, the conglomerate (which brings together Democratic Socialism, the DC, the PC, the PL, the Frente Amplio and the FRVS), and whose name will be “Contigo Chile Mejor”; had determined at least two primaries to register: Bulnes, between the PPD, the PR and RD; and El Carmen, between the DC, the PS, the PPD and CS.

However, they were not entered, so the parties involved must decide through another mechanism, between now and the end of July, who will represent the bloc.

“We as PPD are very satisfied with the registration of our electoral pact ‘With you, better Chile’ on April 10th. We have defined unique candidates in 276 municipalities throughout the country, and in our region we have decided to bring unique candidates in sixteen communes. In Bulnes, El Carmen, Pemuco, Pinto and San Fabián, the national leaderships of our parties are advancing in the best way to define unique candidates for those communes, which must be registered on July 27, 2024, so We do not consider at all that it is a failed act not to register primaries. That eleven parties at the national level can coordinate their candidates demonstrates the high capacity to continue providing governance to our country,” said Yesenia Figueroa, regional president of the PPD.

From the Radical Party, its helmsman in Ñuble, César Calderón, stated that “we were surprised, and we understand that there was no agreement at the national level, perhaps due to lack of generosity. Primaries are a good tool when there are really competitive candidates, however, they also seek to position some political cadres.”

Regarding the way in which the candidates will be chosen, he stated that “we must agree. Holding conventional primaries is an option, -personally it is not to my liking-; It can also be a survey. As PR we have, for example, the conviction that in Bulnes Patricio Velozo is the best card to confront the right, and we will play for him to be the official candidate.

Last minute ups and downs

Brígida Hormazábal, regional president of the PS, expressed that “the candidate registration process, like any process where many actors representing different sensitivities intervene, was not free of difficulties. What is important and redeemable is that the final agreements facilitate a process that brings together and represents a large majority of Chileans. As a result of the registration of the ‘Contigo Chile Mejor’ pact, there were 277 pre-candidacies labeled as agreement or pre-candidacy; and 46 of an agreed total of 86 primaries were registered. It should be noted that our candidates registered correctly, and that our approach was always to hold primaries in the communes where there were more than two candidates, but this had a difficulty, since some parties lowered their candidacies and in other cases, such as the Senator Carvajal’s PPD, candidates were registered without consultation and outside of the agreements made formally.”

In the DC, meanwhile, the Chillán communal president, Patricio Huepe, stated that in the Ñuble region, “the party has candidates for re-election in Quillón and Ninhue; We will challenge the right in Portezuelo and Pemuco, and we were going to have a primary in El Carmen and San Nicolás, which I understand, due to administrative issues, might not materialize in the end. We are very pleased to be with the ruling parties, we are part of, I would say, the progressive center, the center-left, and in particular with the agreement within what the councils are, with allies with whom we have been working for a long time, such as the Socialist Party and the PPD.”

Meanwhile, Francisca Leyton (CS), representative of the Frente Amplio, stated that “in fact, in the Ñuble region, it was not possible to register legal primaries in any of its communes. However, there are permanent dialogue channels at the regional and national level of the pact parties, which will allow agreements to be reached in those communes where there is more than one pre-candidate. We hope to resolve it quickly, so that we can deliver to the citizens the best progressive candidates for the citizenship of Ñuble.”
