Jannik Sinner (ATP 4) also had a successful second game at the ATP Finals in Turin. The 22-year-old Italian defeated Novak Djokovic (ATP 1) in a high-class game in the green group in three sets 7:5, 6:7 (5:7), 7:6 (7:2).

After 3:09 hours, the local hero was able to celebrate following deciding the tiebreak once morest the world number 1 7:2. Sinner had previously taken a 4-2 lead in the set, but Djokovic countered immediately.

Duel at eye level

Sinner took the first round thanks to the only service breakthrough in the decisive phase to make it 6:5 before he used the first set point.

It was also a close duel in which the two opponents remained evenly matched until the tiebreak. In the short decision there were six mini-breaks – a short time later Djokovic used his second set point to make it 7:5.

Rune wins following 3 games

Holger Rune (ATP 8) can hope to reach the semi-finals. The 20-year-old Dane benefited from the injury-related retirement of Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP 6) in his second group game on Tuesday. After just 17 minutes the game was over with the score 2-1 for Rune.

“It was very unfortunate,” said Rune following the short stint: “We might all see in his first service game that something was wrong. I wish him all the best.” On Sunday, tournament debutant Rune lost his opening game in three sets following a big fight once morest Djokovic.

Tsitsipas, who apparently had problems with his back, had already had to give up due to injury at the end of the 8 year’s best season in 2021. In 2019 in London he won the ATP Finals.
