On the 29th, Yoon Ho-jung, chairman of the Emergency Response Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea, said in relation to the controversy over the promise to relocate Gimpo Airport, “I know it as a promise of the candidates running for the local area, not the promise of the central party.”
Chairman Yoon met with reporters following the campaign at Yongin Central Market in Gyeonggi Province on the same day and answered a question regarding whether he had any plans to decide on a party opinion related to the relocation of Gimpo Airport.
Chairman Yoon continued, “It is said that there are differences of opinion among the candidates of our party depending on the region.
A subtle difference in positions was detected within the Democratic Party of Korea as Lee Jae-myung, the general election chairman, and Song Young-gil, the mayor of Seoul, who had previously run in Gyeyang, Incheon, in the by-election for the National Assembly by-election announced their pledges to relocate Gimpo Airport on the 27th.
When the People’s Power launched an offensive stating that this promise would atrophy Jeju tourism, Chairman Lee and Candidate Song countered that it was a ‘divergence offensive’, saying that Incheon International Airport might fully handle the function of the existing Jeju route.
On the other hand, the Democratic Party’s Jeju Provincial Party and Jeju Governor Oh Young-hoon’s election committee criticized it as “a frame that promotes conflicts between the people’s power”, but drew a line saying, “There is no (the future of Jeju) for Democratic Party candidates Song Young-gil and Lee Jae-myung.”
He used a restrained expression for fear of being interpreted as a crack within the party, but it was interpreted that he was uncomfortable with the metropolitan area candidates making a large-scale national promise that might affect other regions.
On the other hand, in response to the question whether the opposition parties agreed to deal with the supplementary budget plan on that day, whether they would proceed with the reception meeting requested the previous day, “I said that the reception meeting was necessary, but the retroactive application that President Yun Seok-yeol promised cannot be applied this time. It was to request that you lower your courage,” he said.
He continued, “Even following the supplementary budget is processed, our party plans to revise the Small Business Support Act that stipulates retroactive application,” he said.
There is no change in that position.”
