A loan from FC Bayern Munich convinces at his new club and has earned a regular place. His goal remains a return to Säbener Straße.

Munich – Gabriel Vidovic is considered a great talent in attacking midfield. Born in Augsburg with Croatian roots, he moved to the FC Bayern campus in 2016 and went through the youth department of the German record champions. Last season he made his Bundesliga debut away from Arminia Bielefeld when he came on as a substitute shortly before the end. In the current season he contributed an assist in his only Bundesliga game, the 7-1 win in Bochum.

FC Bayern Munich: Great appreciation for Vidovic

Because of the great competition in the squad of FC Bayern Munich were his chances of regular appearances in the team of coach Julian Nagelsman rather bad. A whole season in the second team, which plays in the Regionalliga Bayern, was not an option for those responsible. “We’ll see what makes the most sense for his career. Actually, he’s a player who has to go out in a better league than the regional league because he’s just extremely good,” said coach Julian Nagelsmann last summer Kicker.

FC Augsburg showed interest in signing, but Vitesse Arnhem from the Netherlands eventually got the nod. The fact that FC Bayern Munich only considers a loan and not a sale shows how much the 19-year-old is held in high esteem. On Säbener Straße, he is believed to be capable of gaining a foothold in Julian Nagelsmann’s team – just not right away. In Arnhem he should gain match practice at a high level and develop further.

FC Bayern Munich: Vidovic is fighting for a return

“Gabriel has shown with his good performances in preparation that he is rightly in our professional squad. We have now considered together what is best for his development and we have decided to go on loan to Vitesse Arnhem. Gabriel has better chances to play regularly there. Arnhem is a very recognized European address for talent development. This is shown by examples such as Mason Mount or Martin Ödegaard. We are sure that Gabriel will take the next step in Arnhem and we will closely monitor his development there,” said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic when the transfer was announced last August.

In Arnhem, the 19-year-old didn’t need any adjustment time and secured himself a regular place in no time at all. Vidovic appeared in 17 out of a possible 18 league games and scored three goals. “I get very positive feedback. Our whole team is developing well and it’s fun to be part of this project,” the midfielder told the Croatian daily newspaper recently Vespers list.

According to information from the sports portal, Vidovic has Spox regular contact with talent manager Halil Altintop and even with head coach Nagelsmann. The loan to Vitesse Arnhem ends after the current season, how the attacking player will continue is open. First he is with the Croatian U21 national team at the European Championship and wants to play for the title. The next few weeks and months will show which club he will play for next season. In the long term, however, he wants to return to Säbener Straße and a permanent place in Nagelsmann’s squad. “My goal is clear: I want to recommend myself to FC Bayern,” said Vidovic.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich appears to be showing Interested in a Manchester United gem and wants to bring the offensive player to Säbener Straße. (smr)
