The British Foreign Minister, Liz Truss, was elected the winner of the primaries held within the Conservative Party to elect the replacement for its current leader, Boris Johnson, for which she will become the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
The British Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss, is the new leader of Conservative Party and will therefore become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, following prevailing in the primary elections of the “Tories” to the former Minister of Economy Rishi Sunak, announced this Monday the formation in an act in London.
Truss will replace Boris Johnson as head of the Executive this Tuesday, once she is received by Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral Castle (Scotland), where the 96-year-old queen spends her vacations. Thus, the renewal process announced by Johnson in his resignation speech on July 7 will be completed.
Graham Brady, president of the influential 1922 Committee, which brings together Conservative MPs without portfolio, announced the name of the winner at an event held at the “Queen Elizabeth II” conference center, next to the British Parliament, in London.
In announcing the victory, Brady described the internal process to choose the new leader as “free and fair” and indicated that he had a participation of 82.6%. Truss received 81,326 votes among affiliates while Sunak received 60,399 supports.
In recent weeks, Truss and Sunak competed to receive the support of the 172,437 members of the formation, who voted by traditional mail or electronically, following an internal process among the Conservative deputies.

Elizabeth II was initially scheduled to travel to London for the transfer of power, but Buckingham Palace, the residence of the royal family, recently announced the change in plans, due, according to the media, to the queen’s mobility problems.
Once at Balmoral, Johnson – who resigned in July due to the rebellion of members of his Government in protest at his management – will first formally present his resignation to the sovereign and, immediately followingwards, Elizabeth II will call Truss to ask her to form a Government.
After this constitutional act of rigor, the new prime minister will travel to London to appoint the members of her Executive at the official residence of 10 Downing Street.
The new ‘premier’ promised this Monday to “govern as a conservative” and fulfill her commitment to lower taxes, resolve the energy crisis and fix public health.
“I campaigned as a Conservative and I will govern as a Conservative. I will comply with the tax cut, with the energy crisis (…) and with the NHS (public health system) ”, she said in her first speech.
