Liz Terrass, the new British Prime Minister… Shall we see “Thatcher” again?

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss won the position of leader of the ruling Conservative Party on Monday, becoming the new British prime minister, succeeding Boris Johnson, and becoming the third woman in British history to hold the position following Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May.

She is due to take up her new position on Tuesday following meeting Queen Elizabeth.

Terrace won 57% of the votes of the party’s members, compared to 43% for her opponent, former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak.

Johnson resigned last July following pressure from members of his government over the scandals.

The new prime minister faces difficult conditions in the country, which suffers from inflated costs of living, labor unrest, and indicators of economic stagnation, according to BBC Arabic.

Trace has pledged to quickly tackle Britain’s cost of living crisis with a plan to tackle rising energy bills and provide a stable supply of fuel, to reassure people who fear higher energy bills during the winter season.

During the election race, she said she would cancel tax increases and cut other fees, which some say will fuel inflation.

Although Teres Medhat, following her victory, called Johnson to complete the process of Britain’s exit from the European Union (Brexit), her position on secession was not at this level of clarity, as she was initially an advocate of remaining within the union, but following the process of leaving the European Union (Brexit). The split quickly changed her mind, saying the move offered an opportunity to “change the way we work” in the UK.

Terrace has often been likened to Britain’s first female prime minister Thatcher, and this trend may have been reinforced since the Conservative Party elections.

But that’s not the first thing that linked Truss to Thatcher. The new prime minister played Thatcher in a play as a child.

Truss recently said in a television interview that it is frustrating for any woman in politics to be compared to Theresa May or Thatcher, because there are not as many women as men in power.
