LIVING Last Minute Summer Trip: Venedig

Luxuskaufhaus Fondaco dei Tedeschi

Formerly Venice’s main post office with a beautiful atrium and glass roof, the historic building stands in stark contrast to the luxury on offer. The earlier frescoes by Giorgione and Titian, two great masters of Venetian painting, are now in the museum to protect them from the seawater, but the building – much like an ancient palazzo – offers enough historical beauty as it is. Huge escalators decorated in red lead to the four floors, which exclusively house fashion, accessories, perfumery products and delicacies for him and her. The luxury temple built by Rem Koolhaas, who was already responsible for the Prada Foundation in Milan, also includes a café designed by Philippe Starck in the atrium.

A real insider tip is the rooftop, which also acts as a viewing platform and offers a fantastic view not only of Rialto, but also over the roofs of Venice with all its bell towers. However, we strongly recommend reserving a time slot online in advance!
