Many Asian countries have made headlines regarding young people looking for work who were solicited on social media for good jobs and then detained and forced to work illegally following they crossed over to Cambodia. A human trafficking organization was involved, and the actual situation of the damage became clear.

◆ High-paying work abroad Young people who are deceived
Many of the traffickers are linked to well-known criminal networks and use social media to offer young people in Asia high-paying jobs and accommodation in countries such as Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. When young people arrive, they confiscate their passports and sell them to other groups or force them to work in offices that commit phone and online fraud. Perpetrators of such trafficking are said to be Taiwanese, Chinese, Thai and Cambodian. (guardian paper

The biggest victims are said to be Vietnamese and Taiwanese. About 5,000 Taiwanese nationals have not returned following traveling to Cambodia, according to Taiwanese authorities. Taiwanese police said they had confirmed at least 370 people in custody, but said the actual number of victims might be higher. (same)
