Livia Louis-Joseph-Dogué: The Only Overseas Candidate Who Won the Audience Award at Voix Nouvelles Competition 2023

This Sunday, October 8, 2023, the 10 finalists of the 5th edition of the Voix Nouvelles competition sang at the Opéra-Comique, Place Boieldieu in Paris. The only candidate from Overseas, Livia Louis-Joseph-Dogué, sang in second position. She won the Audience Award.

Livia Louis-Joseph-Dogué, the child from Martinique, received a warm welcome before beginning her performance.

She began with an extract from Carmen by Georges Bizet and continued with a performance of Turandot by Giacomo Puccini.

Livia and the other finalists were accompanied by the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Chloé Dufresne.

Her soprano voice, round and generous, vibrated with an emotion that she shared with her audience.

The joint jury for this 5th edition was made up of 40 professionals from the opera world, opera directors, production directors, casting directors, as well as opera singers.

The public prize was awarded to Livia Louis-Joseph-Dogué from Martinique.

The winner, soprano Lauranne Olivier from Paris, won 10,000 euros. In second place, tenor Léo Vermot-Desroches won 7,000 euros and third place with a prize of 4,000 euros was awarded to mezzo-soprano, Juliette Mey.

According to the organizers, it is a “beautiful generation of young artists.”

Livia Louis-Joseph-Dogué, aged 20, was born in Martinique. She has been singing since the age of 3 and joined a choir at 9.

In college, she played the clarinet and participated in the competition “Caribbean in Music” where she received a prize awarded by the Martinique en Résonnances association.

Encouraged by her music teacher at college, she sang during interschool meetings. She participates and wins her school’s talent competition.

Livia self-taught entered the “Voix des Outre-mer” competition organized by the “Les Contres Courants” association which fights once morest the discrimination of blacks in opera. The association is chaired by Fabrice Di Falco and Julien Leleu.

The Young Talents prize was awarded to him in 2019 during the Martinique final. She won this prize in 2020 during the grand national final in Paris.

Encouraged by her godfather, Fabrice Di Falco, she participated in the 6th edition of Prodiges in 2020 and won a prize in the singing category.

Since 2019, she has increased her performances in Paris, Guadeloupe and Martinique.

Self-taught since her beginnings, it was in 2021 that she was admitted to the 2nd year of singing class at the Issy-les-Moulineaux conservatory.

She also won the Student prize in the 6th edition of the Young Espoirs Opera Competition.

Nearly 400 singers registered for the 5th edition of the Voix Nouvelles competition. After 6 months of tests in France, Belgium, Canada, Germany and Romania and the national semi-final at the Massy Opera, only 10 candidates were selected for the grand final of the Voix Nouvelles competition.

The production of the Voix Nouvelles competition is ensured by Génération Opéra, an organization which promotes the discovery, professional integration and promotion of artists from the world of opera.

Génération Opéra receives the support of the Ministry of Culture and the National Music Center and in partnership with France Musique and in collaboration with the Voix des Outre-mer competition and the Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20 in Montreal.

Caisse des Dépôts and the Orange Foundation provide financial support for the competition.
