Arne Slot has also won his second Premier League match as Liverpool manager. On his official home debut, the ‘Reds’ defeated Brentford 2-0 at Anfield.

Also frontrunners and reigning champions Manchester City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Arsenal have the maximum score after two games. Liverpool and Arsenal are the only teams to have not conceded any goals.

Slot opted for the same formation against Brentford as he started the successful second half against Ipswich Town last week. That is to say, with Ibrahima Konaté at the expense of Jarell Quansah in the centre of defence.

In a controlling role in midfield, Ryan Gravenberch was again given a starting place by Slot and of course captain Virgil van Dijk was also at the kick-off. Cody Gakpo had to settle for a place on the bench again.

Gakpo’s main rival on the left wing, Luis Díaz, found the net in the 13th minute. The Colombian fired the ball hard into the corner. The home team was much better and had a number of chances, but Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken was often in the way.

Like last week at Ipswich Town, Liverpool’s second half was better than the first. The visitors were only occasionally dangerous and after the break Mohamed Salah decided the match with a sly chip.

Gakpo came on in the 72nd minute and the Eindhoven player almost made it 3-0. His deflected shot ended up on the crossbar.

With six points from two games, Slot is currently unbeatable at Liverpool. His name echoed from the stands at Anfield several times in the final phase.
