Virgil van Dijk, 33, has been one of the world’s best centre-backs since arriving at Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018.
The Dutchman is the team captain and has a contract until next summer. Now it is said that there could be a move from the Premier League this summer.
TeamTalk reports that Saudi clubs are after his services. The PIF fund, which is managed by the Saudi state, is said to have met with the player’s entourage.
No decision was made, but van Dijk has reportedly given the Saudis the green light to open discussions with Liverpool as he is open to a move.
The PIF Foundation did this and submitted a request. Liverpool then announced that the price tag is around 46 million pounds, corresponding to approximately 635 million kroner.
The Saudis are said to have then announced that the sum is too high and asked for a couple of days to think about it. They are ready to pull out if Liverpool do not lower the price tag.
Another option is said to be to wait until January, when there is only six months left on the centre-back’s contract with Liverpool.
Van Dijk made 36 league appearances last season. He was noted for two goals and two assists.
