German coach Jurgen Klopp is planning to remove Egyptian star Mohamed Salah from the main list following his modest levels since the beginning of the season, according to former Leeds and Coventry City striker Noel Whelan.
So far, the Premier League’s top scorer did not appear the previous season at the level he was known for throughout his career with Liverpool, as his goals and decisive passes were absent.
Whelan told “Football Insider” on Tuesday: Jurgen Klopp was very patient with Salah and stood by him to support him over the past weeks, but I think that the German coach’s patience has run out and his conviction will change soon. He keeps him by his side on the bench, and I believe that Salah knows his coach’s intentions.
He continued: Roberto Firmino scores goals and plays well, Luis Diaz is the captain of Liverpool’s attack at the present time, and Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota will do everything they have to get the main striker.
Whelan believes that this decision will be in Salah’s interest, and he follows: Salah may benefit from sitting on the bench to ignite the spark of challenge within him and motivate himself, sometimes a person needs some pain to get back on the right track, and this applies to Salah, who is no longer the same player since losing His country’s African Nations Cup early this year.
The Egyptian team, led by Salah, lost the African Cup final to Senegal last February, and a month later Egypt lost once more once morest the same team in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Salah renewed his contract with Liverpool last July until 2025.
