Liverpool defeats Tottenham at Anfield and remains firm in third place

Mohamed Salah quickly put last week’s dispute with Jurgen Klopp by scoring the first in the victory of the Liverpool 4-2 over him Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.

The sight of Salah arguing with his outgoing manager at the end of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at West Ham last week dominated debate in the days that followed.

But the Egyptian returned to the starting line-up and on the scoresheet to lead his team to victory once morest Spurs at Anfield.

Salah had already come close to scoring when he rose at the far post in the 16th minute to head in Cody Gakpo’s cross from the left.

Tottenham had been given hope in their quest for Champions League qualification following fourth-placed Aston Villa suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at Brighton. But Ange Postecoglou’s team never looked able to build on that result following being overtaken by Liverpool.

The home team took a 2-0 lead in the 45th following Salah’s shot was saved by Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and Andy Robertson pounced on the rebound.
