Macky Sall, president of Senegal and of the African Union, is the guest of France 24 and RFI. From Paris, he will come back to his recent visit to Sochi, Russia, during which he asked Vladimir Putin to “realize” that Africa was a victim of the conflict in Ukraine, because of the danger of a crisis world food. He will also comment on the political situation in Senegal where the main opposition party denounces its sidelining for the next legislative elections.
The president of Senegal and from theAfrican Union (UA), Macky Sall, answered questions from France 24 and RFI. Asked regarding his trip to Sochi, in Russia, to meet Vladimir Putin as president of the AU, Macky Sall explains that he went there “because we are experiencing a shortage of cereals and fertilizers on the African continent”.
He said he had sent three messages to the Russian president. “Do everything to help free grain from Ukraine through the port of Odessa”, “access grain and fertilizer”, and “the end of the war, a de-escalation”. “We ask to engage in discussions with Ukraine and the other parties,” added Macky Sall.
“If cereals are not produced, we will be in a very serious situation of famine which might destabilize the African continent”, warns the president of the AU.
Concerning the demonstration of the opposition of June 8 once morest the rejection of the national list of the opposition of the legislative elections of July 30, president Sall recalled the spirit of the institutions.
“If we are a stable country, it is no coincidence. We have an electoral code, it has been discussed for months. The country is going to hold its elections”.
