British intelligence assures that the Ukrainians have regained ground in Severodonetsk

In its daily progress report broadcast on social networks, the intelligence service of the British Ministry of Defense indicated that the Ukrainians had gained ground in Severodonetsk, but that the objective of the Russians remained indeed to control the whole of the town.

“This weekend, Ukrainian forces regained ground in Severodonetsk, but Russian forces continue to occupy the eastern districts of the city. Russia’s strategy is undoubtedly to cut off the Severodonetsk region from the north and south,” the statement first read.

Before specifying that the Russian objectives had not changed. “Russia gained ground on the southern axis of Popasna during May but its advances were halted over the weekend. Heavy shelling near the Izium area suggests that Russia is planning to relaunch an offensive on the north axis.

“Russia must certainly advance on one of these axes to translate tactical gains into operational successes, and to progress towards its political objective of controlling Donetsk Oblast.”
