Live Updates: US Congressional Election Results and Senate Balance of Power

A crime count has been running for days following the US congressional elections. Now there is at least clarity regarding the balance of power in the Senate.

In the House of Representatives, where the majority is still unclear, the Republicans have a better chance of gaining control – which might make the next two years uncomfortable for US President Joe Biden due to blockades and parliamentary investigations from the Republican side. As of Sunday morning, 211 Republican and 204 Democratic election winners have been declared for the House of Representatives – 218 seats are needed for a majority.

The Democrats were at least able to defend this balance of power, perhaps even expand it. The only thing missing now is the result from Georgia, where the candidates have to go to the runoff on December 6th. Biggest surprise was Democrat John Fetterman’s victory in Pennsylvania, which cost Republicans a vote.
