A great harvest to come for the French, at the Paralympic Games on Friday August 30? After the title of track cyclist Alexandre Léauté, shooter Tanguy de La Forest won silver in the 10-meter mixed standing air rifle and the French para-table tennis pair composed of Fabien Lamirault and Julien Michaud won a bronze medal after their defeat in the semi-final. Swimmers Hector Denayer and Alex Portal won silver in the 100-meter breaststroke and bronze in the 100-meter backstroke respectively. First title for Alexandre Léauté. Frenchman Alexandre Léauté, the big favourite to succeed him in the individual pursuit in the C2 category, won the gold medal against Belgian Ewoud Vromant. His opponent, beaten by more than two seconds, was unable to do anything against the 23-year-old Breton runner, who set a new amazing time (3’26”015) in this final 3,000 m race.
Tunisian Raoua Tlili a little more in the legend. Raoua Tlili won her seventh Paralympic title on Friday at the Stade de France in the F41 shot put category, with a throw of 10.40m. At 34, she has won her fifth consecutive shot put title.
Bad day for team sports. In goalball, the French men’s team lost to Iran 12-8, the second defeat in a row, after its setback against Brazil, 8-5, on Thursday. In wheelchair basketball, the French men’s team, for its opening match, could do nothing against Canada 83-68, while in wheelchair rugby, the Blues lost to Australia 55-53. Finally, in sitting volleyball, the French women’s team also lost, three sets to zero against Italy.
