Oxygen restriction might extend our lifespan, according to a new scientific study.
If you want to live as long as possible, you just have to breathe less oxygen. According to scientists from Massachusetts General Hospital, whose remarks were relayed by the New York Posthaving low oxygen levels in body tissues might prolong lifespan, according to the findings of their study, published in the journal PLOS Biology.
To achieve this synthesis, the researchers carried out tests on mice. And the results were final. Rodents that lived in a state of “chronic hypoxia” (11% oxygen in the air they breathe instead of the normal 21%) had a 50% longer lifespan and delayed neurological decline compared to others .

Therapy to start at an early age?
“This is the first time that oxygen restriction has been shown to be beneficial in a mammalian model of aging”said study co-author Robert Rogers. However, these results do not mean that humans would fare the same. Some believe that oxygen restriction therapy should be started at an early age for it to be effective. Additional studies are therefore essential to confirm or refute this information.
Note that a study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health in 2011 found that men who made their home in highlands like Utah and Colorado lived an average of 1.2 to 3.6 years. more than those living less than 100 meters from sea level. In the past, research has also shown that oxygen restriction prolongs the lifespan of yeasts, worms and flies.
