The Boerenbond reports that the agreement on the package of measures is not an end point of the negotiations, but the start of a process in which the Boerenbond will closely monitor the agreements made. “We will also act as a discussion partner for new initiatives,” said an initial response.
“Have all Flemish problems for our farmers been solved here today? No. Anyone with common sense also realizes that what has become distorted during four years of the conflict model cannot be straightened out in a few days. Have we heard concrete things here today that give us confidence to return to a consultation model: yes! As a Farmers’ Union, we have contributed to concrete solutions. This is not the end, but a new starting point,” responds Lode Ceyssens of the Boerenbond.
“I would like to thank the Prime Minister and the ministers who sincerely listened to us in recent weeks and stepped over their own shadows in the interests of our farmers. Naturally, we count on them to quickly roll out these concrete proposals.”
“I would also like to pay tribute to all farmers, young and old, from every corner of Flanders, members of our organizations or not, who have taken action in a dignified manner in recent weeks,” Ceyssens concludes.
