Lithuania will therefore fight for fifth place in this World Cup. After their disappointing quarter-final against the Serbs, the Lithuanians rebounded this afternoon in a classification match by easily winning (100-84) against Slovenia.
We didn’t know if Luka Doncic was going to play. He played, and he even played quite well, but despite his 29 pawns Slovenia could not avoid a new (large) defeat. Much too alone and facing a much more complete Lithuanian collective, the leader of the Mavs once again displayed his immense talent. Stepback from the car park in all directions, drive, no-look pass… A big game (again) at the heart of a team where no one, during this competition, will have managed to support it properly to hold off against the best nations.

The Lithuanians were excellent. Under the impetus of a Jonas Valanciunas in double-double (24 points, 12 rebounds) it is a whole collective which is in tune. A superb collective victory with an address of the big days, 57% on the whole meeting and 43% of the parking lot. When it falls in this way, it’s difficult to test the Balts, and a shame that their only misstep in this competition happened at the worst of times against the Serbs, in the quarter-finals. Because when you see the Lithuanians at this level… you say to yourself that there was still room for the last four.

The Lithuanians therefore join their Latvian neighbors for the 5th place match and the Slovenians will play the Italians for the seventh place. Not impossible that Fontecchio and Doncic are not in this last game, should not get tired for a lump of butter either.
