The opening of the exhibition was attended by Lithuanian Vice Minister of Culture Daina Urbanavičienė, Czech Minister of European Affairs Martinas Dvořákas, Governor of Liberec (Northern Czech Republic) Martinas Půta, members of the Czech Parliament, representatives of the Lithuanian community.
“When traveling in the Czech Republic, it is not uncommon to encounter the attitude towards Lithuania as a post-Soviet country. And although this may be true historically, today Lithuania has changed significantly, and it is not defined by the post-Soviet identity, but by the European identity,” Lithuanian Ambassador to the Czech Republic Laimonas Talat-Kelpša told the numerous guests.

According to Deputy Minister of Culture D.Urbanavičienė, the idea itself is interesting: to present authors of several generations, some of whom were born in Soviet Lithuania, others already in independent Lithuania, and to ask them to look at what forms the basis of Lithuania’s identity. “The most unexpected thing was to hear from the Czechs who saw the exhibition that they saw themselves in the works – that means the theme is universal, relevant for the larger region,” said the vice-minister.
Ten Lithuanian artists are presented in the exhibition: Žygimantas Augustinas, Algimantas Kensminas, Tauras Kensminas, Denisas Kolomyckis, Žydrūnas Mirinavičius, Rūta Putramentaitė, Eglė Ridikaitė, Indrė Rybakovaitė, Ieva Skauronė and Andrej Vasilenko. All of them are graduates of the Vilnius Art Academy of different generations.
According to the curator of the exhibition, Agnė Mackevičiūtė, the works of older artists delve more deeply into historical plots, collective traumas of the nation, pay attention to the changing landscape of Lithuania, while the works of the young generation, who have already grown up in free Lithuania, show an obvious identification with the global world, attention to sexuality, personal needs or the postmodern capitalist system. for vice topics.
