Lithuanian butter is much cheaper in Estonia than in its homeland

The Pricer.lt portal shared a photo of the price of butter taken at the Prisma store in the capital of Estonia on social media. It shows that the price of 1.09 euros is listed without a promotion.

For comparison, the same oil costs 2.79 euros in Lithuanian online stores Barbora and Lastmile. Since July 2, Rimi has been offering this product at a discount: previously the price was 2.85 euros, and this week it is 1.69 euros.

Arunas Visickas from Pricer.lt says that there are several reasons for the lower price of butter in Estonia.

“First of all, it is a lack of respect for the Lithuanian consumer. The consumer is treated as a donor, on whom all other operations are based, i.e. export, dumping, etc. It is no secret that Lithuanian dairy products are more expensive in Lithuania than in other countries.

There is a dependency, when difficult situations arise in other markets, in order to improve their financial indicators, these companies usually take measures at the expense of Lithuanian buyers, because they are loyal – and raise prices. This was observed both in the last period of inflation and in the past.

The brands “Žemaitija”, “Pieno žvaigždės” etc. mean nothing to an Estonian, Latvian or Bulgarian.

Therefore, to get on the shelves of stores, you need to compete, offer a better price than others. In Lithuania, a loyal consumer usually pays more,” he explained.
