Russia attacked Ukraine with a record number of drones: five people were injured in the capital

Russia attacked Ukraine with dozens of drones last night, injuring five people in the capital, officials said Saturday.

The Ukrainian Air Force said on Telegram that the Russians had launched 75 Shahed drones, with Kyiv as their main target.

Air raid sirens sounded in at least six regions of Ukraine: Kyiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv and Kirovohrad.

The Ukrainian Air Force managed to destroy 71 drones, most of them shot down in the Kyiv region.

In addition, a Ch-59 guided air missile was destroyed in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that a major Russian attack was carried out on the eve of the Holodomor anniversary.

“More than 70 “Shaheds” on the eve of Holodomor – Genocide Memorial Day. Deliberate terror. In this special time. The Russian leadership is proud to kill,” he wrote in Telegram.

“Our soldiers shot down most of the drones. Unfortunately, not all. But we continue to work to strengthen our air defenses and shoot down more of them. We continue to work to unite the world in defense against Russian terror. The terrorist state must be defeated and answer for its actions,” the president added.

The mayor of the Ukrainian capital Vitaly Klychko, for his part, said that the overnight Russian attack was the most massive drone attack in Kyiv. Air raid sirens went off for six hours.

He told Telegram that five people, including an 11-year-old child, were injured in the attack. They were treated but did not require hospitalization.

In the Solomyanka district, the debris of the fallen drone caused a fire in a kindergarten, and the windows of neighboring houses were damaged. In addition, the second floor of the five-story building was destroyed, and two women were trapped there. Rescuers pulled them out.

In the same area, a fragment of a drone that fell into an open area caused a fire.

In Pecherski, Dnipro, Holosiiv, and Podile districts, debris that fell outdoors or on buildings was also reported.
