Lithuania sent a note of protest to Belarus over the imminent launch of the second unit of the BelNPP, in which it demands an immediate halt of the project “until the resolution of all international issues identified during the missions and inspections of nuclear safety issues.”
“Belarus’s preparations for the launch of the second faulty nuclear power unit with concealment of incidents and defects from the public, as well as the Russian president’s threats to place nuclear weapons in Belarus testify to the irresponsible behavior of dictatorial regimes in relation to nuclear energy,” said Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis.
It is noted that the project of the Belarusian NPP “still has a lot of unresolved safety issues.”
