Conakry-Guinea: Under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Crafts, the annual literary event, called the 72 hours of the book was launched on Sunday April 23 in Conakry by Harmattan Guinea editions.
A cultural meeting which will have known this Sunday evening the mobilization of the actors of the Guinean book and the foreigner, in a context particularly marked by Africanity. This 15th edition has as its central theme: «Africa, literature and identitieswith the components of the book from Guinea, Africa and across the Atlantic.
In this festive atmosphere, the evening was inaugurated with a recital by a Beninese troupe, dedicated to the legendary poet and Senegalese president Léopold Sedar Senghor.A night of Senghor, which illustrates the contrast of negritude in a world confronted with prejudice.
In perfect harmony with the event, the Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Handicrafts and representing his Minister, Fara François Millimono, underlined the relevance of the event. “Africa, literature and identities is a perfect institutional illustration of this book fair. Guinea, Benin and Haiti, three poles of cultures of triangular trade scope, which saw millions of human beings brutally torn from the affection of their families, deported and sold across the Atlantic for more than three centuries, a painful past that make us think” he recalled. Continuing, he emphasized the cardinal values facing our history in relation to the 1time Black republic outside Africa, Haiti. “The 72 hours of the Conakry book will allow us to put into perspective the requirement of humanity and universality that we must face. Africa at its partition played a full part in this deconstruction and reconstruction of a new world for humanity. It must be recognized that if Haiti carries within it the son of Africa, Africa also has in its DNA a good part of this West that itself cannot deny today its African heritage.hammered Mr. François Millimono.
The book more than ever a tool of cultural diplomacy, with Benin as the guest of honor through the voice of its representative Kouadjo Zotti Florent salutes the values of 72 hours of the book and urges Africans to unity. “The 72 hours of the book is an opportunity to highlight our history and our pasthe says.
As a special guest country, Haiti, represented by the Franco-Haitian journalist Philomé Robert, pleaded for the unwavering support of Africans for the Haitian brothers. “I take advantage of this forum to recall three fundamental elements. Haiti is the eldest daughter of Africa, centuries of deportation, isolation and being abject in the plural, Haiti is African and will remain. It is on this African soil today that I see that Haiti needs its mother. You certainly know the reasons… We would not like Africa to forget Haiti, we would like Africans to show more solidarity towards Haiti, because it is a country which is currently going through a difficult time. Haiti is threatened with extinction and Haitians who are African need all the support of their African brothers“, he said.
These events will be punctuated by a literary caravan to the city of honor Boffa, a city steeped in history, once the epicenter of the slave trade.
