Doctors, researchers and health experts participated in the “Listen Jalisco” event

The local deputy Maria Padilla Romo led a health meeting called “Listen to Jalisco”, in which doctors, researchers and health experts participated. During the event, he mentioned that the objective was for everyone to share their experiences from their respective perspectives AND generate proposals that they could take to Congress.

“The purpose is for you to be able to narrate what you experience from each of your trenches, and Our task is to listen to make government and initiatives emerge that at the legislative level we can take to the plenary session of Congress.”

He emphasized the need to change the health system and criticized that the Jalisco Health Secretariat (SSJ) is not aligned with the strategies of the federal government.

He also mentioned that in Jalisco there are 525 health centers, but they do not operate at maximum capacity and do not have monitoring indicators. Furthermore, he pointed out that more than 3 millions of the more than 8 million inhabitants of Jalisco do not have access to social security services.

“There is no record of patient care and follow-up, there is no timely sending of a serious patient to a hospital in an emergency, there is a lack of medicines, medical personnel, healing materials and transparency in expenses.”

His proposal included changes in the organization of the 13 healthcare regions, the coordination between health centers and regional hospitals, and the alignment of Jalisco with the national health plan at all three levels, to address problems such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, among others.

The civil association “A miracle for Romina” through Luis Jaime Delgado, highlighted the importance of early detection diagnoses for children with disabilities. He called for the creation of support networks for parents who have children with disabilities, access to specialists, and support and care programs for fathers and mothers who are caregivers.

Psychotherapist Cristina Oetling Ladrón de Guevara reflected on mental health. She stated that there are many mental illnesses that are not addressed in the city and state.
