Listen here to the terrifying sound generated by the magnetic field of the Earth’s core

THE COLOMBIAN

The European Space Agency and sound engineers, musicians and scientists from the Technical University of Denmark set out to interpret the noise for the human ear.

If you have been outshined while viewing images or perhaps before your own eyes, Aurora borealis, You will be surprised to learn that this strange phenomenon of bluish-green lights is generated, in large part, by the planet’s magnetic field.

The phenomenon of luminescence that occurs in the night sky of the polar areas of the planet is generated when the particles attracted by the winds that flow from the Sun collide with the atoms and molecules of the atmosphere, mainly with oxygen and nitrogen from their upper layers.

And while the Northern Lights offer a visual approach to how the Earth’s magnetic field works, think regarding how it would sound It was, until now, a mystery.

Thanks to trio of “Swarm” satellites, which the European Space Agency launched in 2013, Scientists managed to accurately analyze the magnetic signals emitted by the Earth’s core.

The Space Agency, together with a group of expert sound engineers, musicians and scientists from the Technical University of Denmark generated an interpretation of what the magnetic field might sound like to the human ear.

Audio produced by scientists and sound experts offers a “terrifying” representation of the magnetic field generated by the Earth’s core when interacts with space particles and a solar storm. The sound might be compared to the noise felt before and during a snow avalanche.

“The rumble of Earth’s magnetic field is accompanied by a depiction of a geomagnetic storm that resulted from a solar flare on November 3, 2011 and, in fact, sounds pretty scary”, explained Klaus Nielsen, one of the members of the group of experts who interpreted the noise.
