The Mosaic performance hall, in Lisieux (Calvados) will open its 2022-2023 season with King of pop, a tribute band to Michael Jackson’s repertoire, the Friday, September 9, 2022.
Four voices are heard there: that of the singer Aurélie Ysebaert and those of Juliette, keytar player, Martin, drummer, and Julien, guitarist. Two other musicians, bassist Laurent and keyboardist Nicolas complete the formation.
“The group was born regarding two years ago, on the initiative of Nicolas, a big fan of Michael Jackson”, says Aurélie Ysebaert.
“He knows all the albums by heart. If we followed, it’s because we like Michael Jackson’s songs, but I didn’t know the repertoire as well as he did. He can give the years of the albums. »
Twenty times on Friday
Initially grouping four musicians, the formation quickly grew to six. “Michael Jackson’s repertoire is very rich in voice. I mightn’t see myself doing this alone. So we asked Juliette. The group has been complete since October 2020.
In rehearsal, King of pop already covers around thirty songs by Michael Jackson. The group plans to perform regarding twenty of them, including Thriller, Bad et Beat it, on stage in the Mosaïc room on Friday evening. This will be their first public concert, following the private concert they performed in early June for a birthday.
In the group, each musician has his favorites when it comes to covering a piece of the “King of Pop”. Aurélie’s are P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) et Man in the Mirror. “I’m 41 and I’ve known his music all my life. My favorite era is the 80s and 90s.”
The singer associates the world star with “the party” but also evokes “committed songs like They don’t care regarding us et Earth song ».
“Megastar” artist
Aurélie remembers the death of Michael Jackson on June 25, 2009 in Los Angeles, at the age of 50.
“Fan friends cried all the tears in their bodies. It touched me too. He was a music megastar. »
In particular, she remembers the artist’s “incredible voice” and the variety of styles, in particular “disco, funk, rock”.
Accustomed to singing in piano voice in piano bars and Parisian cabarets for twenty years, Aurélie also likes to be part of a “collective” today.
For the future, King of pop plans to work with a dancer. The stage outfit can also be important. “There may be hats, black and white, sunglasses, gloves, but without wanting to copy everything,” says Aurélie. “We have our own interpretation. »
