Lisa Marie Presley, the only daughter of rock legend Elvis Presley, died Thursday at the age of 54 in California, her mother Priscilla confirmed in a statement.
Presley died at the Los Angeles hospital to which she had been transferred following being found unconscious and having difficulty breathing at her residence in the town of Calabasas. According to local media, she suffered a cardiac arrest.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever met. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thanks for the love and prayers. There will be no further comment at this time,” Priscilla Presley said in the statement sent to the press.
Lisa Marie Presley was last seen in public last Tuesday night at the Golden Globes in Beverley Hills.
Accompanied by her mother, both burst into tears while watching Austin Butler win Best Actor for his portrayal of his father in the movie “Elvis.”
Following in his father’s footsteps
Born in 1968, Lisa Marie spent her entire life in the spotlight, following in her father’s footsteps into the world of music as a singer-songwriter, albeit with mixed success.
When Elvis Presley died of a cardiac arrhythmia on August 16, 1977, Lisa Marie became the sole heiress to his enormous estateincluding his iconic Graceland mansion, located in Memphis, Tennessee, which he and his mother turned into a lucrative tourist attraction.
He made numerous front pages for his four marriages, especially with their weddings with the pop legend Michael Jackson and the actor Nicholas Cage.
She had four children, one of whom, Benjamin Keough, the fruit of her marriage to actor Danny Keough, committed suicide at age 27 in 2020.
In an essay published last August in the journal PeoplePresley claimed that He blamed himself every day for his son’s death.
“I fight and beat myself up relentlessly and chronically, blaming myself every day and that’s pretty hard to live with now,” Presley wrote. “But others will judge and blame you too, even in secret or behind your back, which is even more cruel and painful on top of everything else.”
She is survived by her daughter Riley Keough, 31, and the 14-year-old twin girls she had with musician and producer Michael Lockwood, whom she divorced in 2016.
