In the new series “From Lungau to the Ski World Cup” the “Lungauer Nachrichten” brings young talents to the fore. At the start we’re talking regarding Lisa Grill, who made the jump there.
In February 2021, Lisa Grill had a serious fall. The road back was rocky and long: “I never gave up hope. Skiing is what I like to do best,” says the 23-year-old in an LN interview. Only another operation in June 2022 relieved the pain. “From then on, things went uphill once more. It took a year and a half until I was able to slowly start training once more. Before that, I had to deal with my everyday life with little stress. Walking normally was a challenge.” From then on, physiotherapy as well as strength and conditioning training accompanied her on her way back.
Last winter she skied ten times: “But it still hurt too much.” Another operation followed in March 2023. “I started from scratch in training, precisely because there had been a standstill for so long.” Lisa Grill has been a police athlete since spring. The training to become a police officer is divided over five years.
In August she made turns in the snow once more on the Stelvio Pass (ITA). Since then things have progressed well. “I’m very happy with skiing. I quickly found my feeling once more. My lower leg is still giving me problems.
My shin still needs days of training to get used to the shoe once more. I’m just giving myself a day longer break than usual. The important thing is that it works once more and that everything holds up.”
The Tamsweger is currently assigned to the European Cup speed group. “I’m just looking forward to finally racing once more. I have no pressure, I get the time and can concentrate on my comeback.”
The all-rounder and speed specialist will no longer be competing in slalom: “Unfortunately, slalom is no longer an option. But I’ll take giant slalom in addition to downhill and super-G.” It starts in December with the FIS races in Hippach/Tirol, following which the European Cup season begins.
Goal for the season? “The goal is difficult. In any case, I want to go back to where I was before. This year the focus is on the European Cup. Of course, I’m looking forward to every further World Cup appearance.”
What did you learn from this accident? “I’ve learned a lot. I’ve gotten to know myself even better and will try to listen even more to my body when it tells me something. I’ve certainly become a bit more patient – no matter how bad the time was I took a lot with me and am even more grateful that I can still race at all. A lot of people supported me on my way back – family and friends, doctors, therapists, trainers and also the Olympic Center in Rif, where I did most of my fitness training But above all my sponsors like Obertauern, who have not lost faith in me. I would also like to thank Autohaus Neubauer for their support over the years.”
