An employee of a business in Massachusetts, United States, has been formally charged with attempting to cash in a winning lottery ticket worth $3 million forgotten by a customer.
Carly Nunes, who works in a liquor store, drew suspicion from colleagues when they saw her trying to validate the ticket which was in very poor condition.
Some also heard the 23-year-old arguing with her boyfriend over how they were going to split the money. The exchange was also captured by a trade surveillance camera.
The police were then contacted and decided to open an investigation. By analyzing the establishment’s surveillance cameras, the investigators found that Carly Nunes had not purchased the ticket. The police then traced the real holder of the winning ticket in order to give it to him.
The 23-year-old cashier was charged with theft, presenting a false statement and intimidating a witness.
