FC Barcelona has not buried the idea of repatriating Lionel Messi to Camp Nou next season and the rumors concerning a return of the Argentine star to Catalonia are multiplying more and more. Earlier this week, Argentinian journalist Veronica Brunati announced with great fanfare that La Pulga “will be a Barça player on July 1, 2023”.
This Thursday, it was Eduard Romeu, the club’s economic vice-president who mentioned a return for Messi during the presentation of the Blaugranas’ 2022-23 budget: “You already know that we can do miracles”he announced, referring to Barça’s XXL transfer window and the arrivals of Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Koundé.
“The club’s doors will always be wide open for Lionel Messi. If we deem his return timely, we will get to work to achieve our goal.”he added.
Messi, 35, still has a year left on his contract with PSG. But the foot calls from Barça are more and more numerous. Last July, Joan Laporta had already mentioned the return of the sevenfold Ballon d’Or for the first time: “I hope the story between Messi and FC Barcelona is not over,” he explained, “It’s our responsibility to make sure this ends in a better way. As president of Barça, I feel indebted to him.”
If the Catalan club hopes for a return of its prodigal son, Messi has not yet made any decision for his future according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, and he has not yet received any official offer from his former club.
