What started as a normal tourist visit ended in tragedy: A lion bit off one of his keepers’ finger at a zoo in Jamaica.

The record was uploaded to social networks by the tourists who participated in the tour, it shows how the man in charge of the lion provokes him and puts his hand through the bars despite the signs of discomfort that the feline was showing.

At the moment that the lion closes its jaws and catches the keeper’s finger, the laughter of the tourists quickly turns to cries of panic, between fear and shock, no one came to help the man.

At the end of the video, it is possible to see when the animal rips off the man’s finger, who falls to the ground by force due to the force he was exerting to get his hand out of the lion’s mouth.

Through social networks, the Jamaica Zoo indicated that “it was a tragedy and does not represent the safe procedures and policies that govern the zoo. We are analyzing the video to learn how we can prevent this from happening once more.”

“We want to assure our public that we proudly identify with the love, care and professional treatment that our animals receive,” they added.
