Linzer Kamenschak third in the New Year’s Eve run in Peuerbach

The Austrian U20 record holder over 3,000 and 5,000 m only had to beat the German Florian Bremm (19:11.81) and the Kenyan Victor Kiptoo Kimutai (19:1) in the Asse race over 6.8 km in 19:14.80 minutes. 12.28) admit defeat. The Kenyan Edinah Jebitok was the best in the women’s 5.1 km with a course record. Julia Mayer and Andreas Vojta came fifth.

In an ORF TV interview, Bremm was “incredibly happy” about the victory, which gave him a “perfect” end to the year. The 19-year-old Kamenschak, this year silver medalist at the U20 European Championships in the 1,500 m and third in the 5,000 m, was happy about an “incredible race”. The Austrian fans made a big contribution to this. “The Stockerlplatz is a huge honor. My goal was to become the best Austrian. That’s what I achieved. I beat Andreas Vojta for the first time, that’s also a great honor.”

Vojta, who came third last year, came fifth (19:21.94), was satisfied with the marathon distance and declared that he saw Kamenschak as a successor to Günther Weidlinger, who still holds numerous ÖLV records in the general class.

“I didn’t expect the course record. I just did my best,” explained Jebitok. Mayer repeated her placement from last year. “In the second round I tried to shake off the really big group and took the initiative.” In the end, she was left behind in the fight for the podium against the strong middle distance athletes. In 2024 she wants to try again “with different tactics”.

In the New Year’s Eve run over 5.3 km on the Ringstrasse in Vienna there were Austrian victories by Julia Hauser (17:48 mins) and Martin Mistelbauer (15.57).
