Kevin Kamenschak (ATSV Linz LA) completes the Austrian medal set at the U20 European Championships in Jerusalem (ISR) in the 1500 meter final on Wednesday morning. With a tactically and technically strong race, the 19-year-old wins only the fourth silver medal for Austria in the history of the U20 European Championship.

After a rather slow start, where Kamenschak was in the back of the field, the race got really fast regarding 800 meters before the end. The man from Linz boldly ran forward and even got in front of the clear favorite Niels Laros. Only at the end did he have to admit defeat to the Dutchman. The rest of the field was clearly behind. Kamenschak won silver with 3:59.73 minutes behind Laros with 3:56.78 minutes. Bronze went to the Czech Ondřej Gajdos (4:00.98 minutes). The Austrian ran the last 800 meters in a sensational 1:50 minutes. A time that would even be good for top placements in the 800-meter final for professionals.
